Trim video online: free, with no upload
Cut the start and end off a clip, remove a section from the middle or split a video into parts. Cutline does it in your browser, so your file stays on your device.
Trim a video in four steps
- Open the editor, drag your video into the media library and then onto the timeline.
- To trim the start or the end, drag the left or right edge of the clip. The preview updates in real time.
- To cut out a middle section, put the playhead where the unwanted part starts and press
Sto split. Do the same where it ends, select the piece you do not need and pressDelete. PressShift+Deleteto remove it and close the gap. - Press
Spaceto check the result, then export to MP4 or WebM with⌘E(Ctrl+Eon Windows and Linux).
Precise cuts
A few shortcuts make it easy to land exactly where you want:
←and→move the playhead one frame; holdShiftto move one second.HomeandEndjump to the start and the end of the project.- Hold
⌘(Ctrl) and scroll to zoom the timeline around the cursor. ⌘Z(Ctrl+Z) undoes a cut if you missed.
Why trim in the browser
Your file is never uploaded, so there is no upload step and no server-side file size limit. Editing starts the moment you drop the file in, and the exported video is written straight to your disk.
Nothing is added to the result: no watermark, no logo, no end card. Read more about exports without watermarks.
Once the video is trimmed
Trimming is only the start. You can cut dead air out of a talking video, generate subtitles from speech or add a voiceover on a separate track.
Frequently asked questions
Can I trim a video without re-encoding?
No. Cutline renders each frame and encodes the result on export (with hardware encoding where available), so cuts, text and effects are combined in a single pass.
Is there a length or size limit?
Cutline has no upload and no server-side limits. What you can edit depends on your computer and browser. In Chrome and Edge the export is written straight to disk.
Does the trimmed video get a watermark?
No. The exported file contains only your footage.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Editing and export happen on your device.
